A Slush Fund for Traitors?
$1.7 billion for Trump and his DOJ to hand out to his private militia of insurrectionists, rioters, neo-nazis, and white supremacists...
They came with crowbars, axes, machetes, sharpened flag poles, bear spray, brass knuckles, stun guns, and tasers.
They waved Confederate flags and sported neo-Nazi symbols as they built a towering gallows and chanted “Hang Mike Pence!”
They shattered the doors and windows of our nation’s Capitol, looted offices, urinated and defecated in the hallways, and even smeared their feces on the walls.
They injured more than 140 police officers, leaving some with traumatic brain injuries, chemical burns, severe lacerations, and skull fractures. Five responding officers died in the aftermath of the riot.
Donald Trump had ginned them up, urged them on, and then sat in the Oval Office for hours doing nothing to stop the mayhem until it was clear that Vice-President Pence had been safely evacuated and Trump’s attempt to stop the peaceful transition of presidential power had failed.
IT WAS A DOMESTIC TERRORIST ATTACK, AN ATTEMPTED COUP, A SEDITIOUS CONSPIRACY, AN ASSAULT ON AMERICAN DEMOCRACY
Hundreds were tried and convicted, and many pleaded guilty to their crimes, yet within hours of being sworn in for his second presidential term, Donald Trump signed an executive order granting a “full, complete and unconditional pardon” to more than 1,500 insurrectionists, even referring to them as “hostages” during his Oval Office signing ceremony.
NOW HE WANTS TO GIVE THEM YOUR TAX MONEY
The Trump administration has now established a $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” as part of an agreement to resolve his sham lawsuit against the IRS, and January 6 rioters are expected to be eligible for payouts.
These are your tax dollars, extracted from the Treasury Department, as a result of a “settlement” arranged between Trump’s personal defense lawyers and a Department of Justice (DOJ) that he fully controls after a bogus lawsuit he filed over a 2020 leak of his tax records by an IRS contractor that was going nowhere in court.
THIS EFFECTIVELY HAS ALLOWED THE PRESIDENT TO SIT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE LEGAL TABLE AND AWARD HIMSELF A FORTUNE
Calling it a collusive sham, House Democrats have filed an emergency motion for an injunction to freeze the $1.776 billion until a full trial determines whether the fund is constitutional.
“It’s official: Trump is moving to make the Jan. 6 cop-beaters, rioters and insurrectionists MILLIONAIRES with our tax dollars… This case is nothing but a racket designed to take $1.7 billion of taxpayer dollars out of the Treasury and pour it into a huge slush fund for Trump at DOJ to hand out to his private militia of insurrectionists, rioters, and white supremacists, including those who brutally beat police officers on January 6, 2021…” ~ Representative Jamie Raskin, ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee
The 14th Amendment of our Constitution, originally created to ensure that taxpayers could not be forced to pay off the war debts of the Confederacy, or that slaveholders would not be financially compensated by the government for losing their enslaved labor, explicitly states that neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay “any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States.”
By explicitly structuring Trump’s new fund to provide financial relief, legal fee refunds, and compensation to pardoned January 6 defendants, the administration would be using taxpayer funds to financially support individuals who participated in a rebellion against the government.
In a secret supplemental document signed only by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the federal government is “forever barred and precluded” from pursuing pending tax examinations or liabilities against Trump, his family members, and affiliated businesses, effectively granting them immunity for all past tax returns that may prove to be false and therefore felonious.
Postscript:
Trump has called the January 6 insurrection a “day of love,” and praised the rioters as “patriots, heroes, and warriors.” Many of the pardoned rioters have reportedly committed subsequent violent crimes after being pardoned for their roles in the insurrection.
Injured Capitol and Metropolitan police officers have still not received any compensation for the injuries they sustained while protecting our nation’s Capitol from the violent mob.
