Before we head to Texas and discuss the bad ratings, last night was a stunning victory for free speech.
Following a thunderous public outcry, accompanied by protests and subscription cancellations, the Walt Disney Company reinstated Jimmy Kimmel to his late-night comedy slot on ABC.
I doubt it was based on a sudden moral epiphany about democracy and the First Amendment. My bet is it was the $4 billion drop in Disney stock, the tsunami of cancellations, and the firestorm of negative PR.
In Kimmel’s opening monologue, he played a clip of then-candidate Trump lathering it on about how much he supports the First Amendment… and then this:
Donald Trump has always been acutely thin-skinned.
He even admitted it on camera decades ago during a 1990 interview with Charles Feldman on CNN. Then he proved it by petulantly walking out on the interview when asked about his failing Atlantic City casinos.
Trump has hated the press and seethed over being lampooned by political satirists for years, and Jimmy Kimmel has long been at the top of his list.
Today, following Kimmel’s triumphant reappearance last night, the President of the United States posted this on Truth Social:
TV ratings are similar to political polls in that both gauge public sentiment.
Since taking office this year, Trump’s polls have been plummeting. He’s well below 50% approval on crime and public safety, immigration, foreign policy, employment, the economy, education, trade, social programs, healthcare, and inflation.
Overall, more than 55% of Americans disapprove of his performance.
Even in Texas… yes, Texas, 51% disapprove of the job Donald Trump is doing, while only 44% approve.
So, who’s rotting in their own bad ratings?
Jimmy Kimmel gets the last word (don’t miss the ending!).
