Should We Deport the Statue of Liberty?
After all, she's female, her message is woke, and she's definitely a lib.
In 1886, France gifted us the Statue of Liberty, designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, in honor of the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.
In 1903, these now iconic words from "The New Colossus,” by American poet Emma Lazarus, were inscribed on a plaque and placed on the pedestal of the Statue:
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."
For more than a century, the Statue of Liberty has stood as a beacon of hope and freedom for immigrants arriving on America’s shores.
But is it time for Lady Liberty to go?
War on Woke
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has been waging a continuous campaign against Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). This includes scrubbing the history and contributions of women and minorities, erasing mention of female fighter pilots and Black war heroes on military websites, and removing hundreds of books from military colleges and the U.S. Naval Academy library.
DEI is the bugaboo of the MAGAsphere, which clearly prefers a world with white men in the driver’s seat as women and minorities sit in the back of the bus.
This week, Secretary Hegseth proudly boasted that he has dismantled the Defense Department’s Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) program. WPS enhances women’s involvement in global peacekeeping, conflict resolution, and security initiatives. This includes deploying female personnel in military and diplomatic missions where cultural or religious barriers limit male engagement.
On social media, Hegseth condemned the WPS program as a "woke divisive/social justice/Biden initiative” and “a UNITED NATIONS program pushed by feminists and left-wing activists.”
OOPS!
The program was not the work of former President Biden, feminists or radical lefties. It was signed into law in 2017 by President Trump, who hailed it as a great achievement.
So here’s an idea, Mr. Secretary:
How about deporting the Statue of Liberty back to France? As an added insult, you could pack her in bushels of Freedom Fries.
After all, Lady Liberty is clearly a woke, feminist, left-wing, DEI affront. And don’t forget, she came from France, which refused to support us when we invaded Iraq, causing rightwingers to become so outraged they changed the name of French Fries to “Freedom Fries.”
Wouldn’t that be a great smackdown for all those uppity women, diversity lovers, and immigration sympathizers?
Better yet, deport her to the El Salvadoran Terrorism Confinement Center where the Trump administration is sending people it’s snatching off our streets without legal due process.
Lady Liberty could then raise her DEI torch to those tired, poor, and huddled masses yearning to breathe free.
Throughout the nation today, protesters plan to march in honor of May Day, an annual celebration honoring the struggles and achievements of working people. They are speaking out against administration policies that favor billionaires while dismantling critical public services, criminalizing dissent, and attacking the rule of law.
