Their appetite is insatiable. They want it all.
It's not the gospel of loving thy neighbor, serving the poor, cultivating compassion, or practicing forgiveness. Instead, they lust for profit, power, and control... by any means necessary.
Jesus taught us to love our neighbors, serve the needy, practice compassion, and be instruments of peace. Christian nationalists promote hatred, intolerance, prejudice, and violence as a path to political power favoring the replacement of our democracy with a fundamentalist theocracy.
“Driven by that lust for power, Christian nationalism is the ideology that inspired and guided the deadly January 6 insurrection; organizes countless attacks on the equal rights and religious freedom of non-Christians, immigrants, women, the LGBTQ community, people of color, and other Americans; and now threatens to incite a new wave of political violence with never-ending rhetoric about "holy war," the "armor of God," and "the angel of death" coming for the movement's political opponents.” Faithful America
God & Country is a powerful documentary that explores the threat Christian nationalism poses to our nation. I recently had the opportunity to interview a key voice in the film, evangelical pastor Doug Pagitt. In our talk, he shares his views on Christian nationalism and the Awaken Megachurch’s advance on Coronado. As Pastor Pagitt warns, “Their appetite is insatiable.”
Mark your calendars, invite your friends, and join us on Sunday, May 19, for a one-time-only free viewing of the God & Country documentary at the Coronado Performing Arts Center, 650 D Ave., Coronado (at Coronado High School).
Following the screening there will be a discussion led by World Religion Professor Peter Bolland, with local pastors JT Greenleaf and Steve Mather.
Here’s the trailer for the film:
More than 1,000 concerned citizens have signed the “No Cults in Coronado” petition. Please lend your voice.
