Long Knives, Crossbows, Assault Weapons and Dystopian Delusions
The Awaken cult political movement and Coronado’s mayor have an ongoing history.
The RMNNT, Warriors for Liberty, is the political wing of Awaken, an organization that deeply desires to replace our democracy with a theocracy… you know, like the Taliban or the mullahs of Iran. It weaves conspiracy theories, election denialism, and mis/disinformation into a dystopian stew while claiming its followers are the chosen ones implementing God’s will… with deadly weapons if need be.
The RMNNT was founded by Awaken devotee Alana Sorensen, who also has won a seat on the Central Committee of the San Diego County Republican Party.
Here’s Alana Sorensen in the premiere video on the RMNNT website, traipsing through hill-and-dale with her husband as they sport long knives, crossbows, and assault weapons as if they are starring in a sequel to The Hunger Games.
Sorensen credits Coronado Mayor Richard Bailey for her leap into electoral politics, saying it was the mayor who inspired her to run for a seat on the Central Committee of the Republican Party of San Diego County, where she serves with Bailey.
Bailey has long refused to comment on his relationship with Awaken, whose founder promises to “take territory” in Coronado and dismisses any who oppose him as “demoniacs” and vows to drive them out of town.
It’s little wonder the mayor avoids commenting, despite the fact he has helped train political candidates at Awaken and in return has received the group’s ongoing and ardent support.
The Lincoln Club of San Diego, where Bailey is a prominent member, has poured a lot of money into mailers for our local election in support of Bailey’s chosen candidates, who happen to be the same candidates supported by The RMNNT and Awaken.
Here’s My Take
Bailey, who terms out this year, announced for Congress, then dropped out of the race, then announced for County Supervisor only to drop out again.
He leaves a legacy of increasing partisan division in Coronado and clearly wants to continue dominating the political landscape despite leaving office.
I think he owes this community a detailed explanation of his relationship with Awaken and The RMNNT, including how he feels about Awaken’s founder calling Coronado residents “demoniacs” and threatening to run us out of town should we dare disagree with him.
Reviews of Awaken from Yelp on San Diego Cults
The entire messaging was about going to war against people who pushed back against their heavily conservative, cult-like agenda.
They are manipulating God and the bible to fit their political stances. It also felt like a cult.
They don't want to accept you for who you are, they want to make you into a cult drone who thinks and acts only like them.
I feel bad for anyone who is having a crisis of faith that walks into that church because this is not the type of Christianity that Jesus himself would preach.
